Archive Stories of Happy Endings From Wire Fox Terrier Rescue Great Lakes
Jamie was purchased from a pet store when someone saw the deplorable condition she was in. She had sat far too long. She was already over 6 months old and no longer a young puppy. She had become listless. Her coat was matted. She sat with her back to the window and slept most of the time. The store claimed she was aggressive when they tried to give her care! A generous soul purchased her and gave her to Wire rescue. She has found the best home in the world and now shares her life with her rescue sisters, Sydney and Murphy. They get to go to work w/ their owners everyday! Jamie had lots of problems from being caged so long and we are grateful to Barb and Leslie, her new owners for sticking with her and working things out!
Holly and Charlie had come to rescue separately. They both ended up in foster care at the same time. Charlie had been picked up as a stray, totally uncared for and extremely thin. He was rescued off the highway by a kind woman. Holly had always had a wonderful home but had become aggressive and began fighting w/ another female Wire in her home causing her family to make the decision to give her up. They were adopted together by a repeat rescue owner. They look pretty happy together and we couldn’t be happier!
Oliver is a great puppy who was surrendered by his family who had no time for him. He was adopted by a great single man who already shared his life with Maxwell, a rescued Kerry Blue Terrier. Oliver and Maxwell quickly formed a bond and now enjoy the good life getting into all kinds of Terrier trouble.
Hannah is a great female who lost her home in IL because she was fighting w/ the newly adopted Greyhound. She was a real pill in her foster home quickly establishing herself as “top-dog” among Airedales 3 times her size! Hannah has found her forever home w/ an Ohio couple and their male Wire Bailey. Her new mom writes, “We call her the hummer…. she makes a sound in her throat when she sees us eating or when she wants something, so funny. Thank you for making Hannah a part of our lives. You can be sure she’ll have a good home with us forever”
Bitsy was discarded at a shelter in Illinois. We don’t know much about her past but she was a typical middle-aged female opinionated Wire Terrier. After a short foster she went to live with a Wire experienced woman in MI who owned a male Wire named Oscar. Immediately upon entering Oscar’s home, Bitsy checked the lay of the land, grabbed a toy and Oscar’s favorite bed. Bitsy & and Oscar’s mom spends her winters in California where there is a dedicated dog beach to play. We would say that Bitsy landed in heaven! See the other summer picture featured on the Home page!
Rina & Rudy We happily adopted Rina at the beginning of February. When we saw her picture on the site we immediately fell in love with her and those crazy ears! While Rina still has lots to learn, you can see from the picture that she has a strong and serious teacher--Rudy! They generally have been getting along well as Rudy shows Rina who's boss--their "alpha dog" Igor! Rina loves to play, run around the yard, visit with our neighbor terriers--in short she is a little live wire who is adorable! She and Rudy play with their squeaky toys and love to nap. Rina is turning into a real cuddler who loves to sit on our lap and have her little belly rubbed. We love our Rudy and Rina and are so thankful that we found them and that they found us! Note: Rudy was adopted several years ago.
Louie Being the proud mother of two 12 years old Wire Fox Terriers it was easy for me and my family to open our door to another pup in search of a family. We had been spoiled for years by the companionship of Sidney and Simon, who have showered us with their love and affection endlessly. And being partial (to say the least) to their personalities and intelligence – I sought out and found Wire Fox Rescue. I remember the day I first visited the website and the first time I saw Louie. As much as I wanted to be the right home for any of the adoptees – I just knew Louie was the one. The site described him having many of the traits I cherish in my boys, who also growl talk and spend loads of time perched in the front windows. I knew we could get along just grand.
One of the biggest changes Louie faced was walking on a leash. We live in the city and although we have a yard, the boys are accustomed to having at least 4 walks a day. Wanting to introduce him to the ways of the pack as soon as we could, we got him started straight away. And surprise! He needed absolutely no coaxing at all! He was like a little boy in the big city, all wide eyed and amazed by everything. Everything was so new, waiting to be discovered, waiting to meet Louie!
He is always the first at the door, first in line for his leash! And he is quite the popular fellow now too. Store owners wave through their windows or welcome us at the door with a treat. Neighbors with dogs and children stop to inquire “How’s Louie?” We get a lot of “Wow! three dogs, and their all the same!” But they are not all the same. They are all very different. They all have very unique wonderful loving personalities.
From Louie’s army crawls across the carpet in the morning, to his hiding bones and toys around the house….to his never ending requests to cuddle, he has brought excitement and youth and love and tenderness and patience back to the surface for us…all the gentile qualities that make us all better humans.
Louie Louie Louie, such a GOOD boy, so smart, so ready to learn. Oh so ready to give love! We are so very lucky to have such a smart boy! We are in love with him and more and more every day!
Below is a picture of Louie, with his sister and puppy brothers Simon and Sidney, on the stoop of his new “forever home”.
Mitzi "She is doing really good. We did have a thunderstorm a few weeks back and she got really scared. She tried to hide in the closet. She loves the backyard, but doesn't want to go out in the front yard, near the sidewalk. She is all over the house, she mostly sleeps on my mom's bed with her. She loves her bones and playing sock. She pulled apart her pull toy. She loves getting hugs and treats. We love her so much!"
Isabell was abandoned in a UP vet’s office by her original owners to be destroyed. After rescue and transport by volunteers downstate she was fostered and adopted by a family in Ohio. It was found she needed bladder surgery. Below is a quote from her new mom. "I am sooooooo happy with Isabell (not unhappy at all) If I could hand pick any dog in the world I would choose Isabell every time. She is a special little girl."
Cooper is a great feisty young male who came to rescue totally unloved and uncared for. In his whole life he had never been to the Vet! He had sores all over his body. After Vet care and neuter he was adopted by this Terrier experienced couple in Plymouth MI. He shares his new home with another rescue dog, Winnie and has a great life. "Taking lots of great walks the highlight going a loooooong walk at Maybury State Park with lots of cool water to drink and animal cookie snack. And topping it off with catching and killing a field mouse he has been hunting near the drainpipe! We are finding out how busy he likes to be and are rising to
the challenge."
"I thought you would like pictures of Riley and his new family. He is a great dog!!! We decided we will never get another wire unless it is from rescue and you!! What you do is wonderful!!! Riley was given a second chance and we are blessed to have him in our lives!! Thank you"
Avery is a wonderful 9 year old Wire who was given to rescue in KY by his longtime owners because of increasing separation anxiety. Our Airedale Rescue friend in CT has a special affinity for senior dogs and offered to help relocate Avery. After a plane ride to CT and a short foster period Barbara and her husband Denis decided that Avery was in fact home to stay! Their rescue Airedale and Welch’s accepted Avery immediately. They are managing his separation anxiety by including him in daily errands and are smitten with his Wire Fox Terrier charms! Once again Barbara and Denis have proved a friend to our Wire Fox rescue effort.
Tully and Darby - "When we got up this morning it felt just like Christmas does when you are a kid - that split second when you wake up and realize what is waiting for you - what a wonderful feeling!"
During the Christmas season we found ourselves with lots of Wires and short on foster homes.
A good friend in CT who does Airedale Rescue, Barbara Curtiss helped us out by finding some top-notch homes and organizing the controlled chaos at the airport as the dogs arrived.
Digby, Madeline, and Nick arrived shaken but ready to start their new life with their
adoptive families. Many thanks to Barbara and those adoptive homes!
Digby is a great Wire who was given up by his family because they had a new baby and he wasn't prepared for the new sounds in the house. Being a natural hunter his family felt he could be a danger to the new baby. He was adopted by a wonderful Wire experienced family in CT through our friend in rescue, Barbara Curtiss. He now lives with a female Wire and has his forever home where he is much loved!
Halle is a beautiful young female who was owned by people who didn't understand her. They thought she was aggressive and perhaps should be put to sleep! She now lives in MI with a couple who think she is wonderful and has lots of fun with her. She has a large yard to play in and lots of love.
